Our Prayer House Story
I remember in April 2024 when Julia and I were helping lead a missions team from Dallas on a 2 month missions trip to Mexico. Our primary goal was to serve the long-term missionaries there through prayer, food, evangelism, kids programs and more. While serving in Mazatlán, God reminded us of the years we spent living as full time missionaries in Mexico and specifically of this very small piece of land He miraculously helped us acquire in the city of Oaxaca. We had spent many hours in prayer asking God what was the purpose of this land, but for years we kept getting nothing. That day in Mazatlán, however, God spoke.
As Julia and I put that property back on the table, I felt God bring to mind Romans 12:2, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." He said the reason we hadn't gotten clarity was because we weren't willing to hear what He was actually saying. He had to renew how we thought about the whole land for His will to be revealed.

So, we took a risk and threw all our ideas out the window and offered the land humbly before the Lord- repenting of being consumed with our own way. Almost immediately, tears began to run down my face as I felt God speak. Soon I was fully sobbing barely able to choke out the words "I want to build you a house! I want to build you a house of prayer!” When Julia finally understood my words she also felt a massive conviction to build God a House of Prayer, and although at that time we were 5 months into living and stewarding our church’s House of Prayer back home in Dallas, we had no idea what that Mazatlán moment was shifting our hearts for.
After more God confirmations that we love to share in person, we are confident that God’s plan for us is to establish houses of prayer wherever He leads, and that physically building this House of Prayer in Oaxaca is our next obedience step!
This House of Prayer in Oaxaca is designed to:

Be a gathering place for the nations to pray

Give local Oaxacan pastors and missionary families much needed rest

Host prayer retreats for those local and abroad

Host mission trips that serve the long-term workers in Oaxaca
This house is not just a physical place, it is a spiritual refuge for those who need to find a sacred space to pray and recharge their hearts amidst so many difficulties. We feel called for this space to be a place where God encounters people with refreshment and fresh vision for their life- just like He gave us that day in Mazatlan.
That is why we are raising funds for this House of Prayer: to offer refuge to pastors and ministry families who are striving for something better, God’s fullness. For years we witnessed first hand that the bulk of the kingdom work in Oaxaca is focused on unreached tribes in remote villages. This House of Prayer will not only refresh the weary pastor, but it will stir up the needed prayer support to see these unreached groups come to know Jesus!
And even though we have so much still to learn about what God wants with a house of prayer, we intend to give our lives to what God set in motion through this deep burden in our hearts to mobilize prayer!
Welcome to our adventure! God has impressed on Julia and I to give nearly half of everything we bring in as a family towards this house and trust Him to provide!
